The Apostle Paul wrote, “to him (God) be the glory in the church” (Ephesians 3:21) There can be no doubt that the only one that is to receive glory is the Almighty Creator. This truth is even more relevant when it comes to the church. The church is the place where God is to be the subject of worship, the object of worship, and the centre of attention.
Funny, but that is not always the case. The temptation to be focused on personalities and other temporary things is very real in the church. No matter how good a song sounds and no matter how good a worship team sounds or looks, nothing can compare to God.
Who in the church is like our God? He is perfect in every way. Perfect love. Perfect in knowledge. Perfect in justice. Perfect in patience. And, can we forget that he is the Founder of the church itself? If it wasn’t for his supreme sacrifice, the church would not exist. We would all be lost in our sin (Luke 15).
When Satan tempted Jesus to worship him, Jesus answered with a firmness. “Go Satan! For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God, and serve him only”. (Matthew 4:10)
A great scene of worship will unfold one day, according to John’s writing in The Revelation. A multitude of voices will be heard saying, “let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His Bride has made herself ready”. (Revelation 19:7)
Worship in the church? It is to him, “for the Lord Almighty reigns” (Revelation 19:6) Tempted to focus on things or personalities? Remember who worship is for and why.
