A great religious, civic, and military leader wrote a song in praise of God. He was a witness of the awesomeness of God. He and his people were miraculously freed from bondage on a grotesque level.
Moses is not well-known as a songwriter – until he saw the mighty hand of God. Not only that, he also encountered God personally. It was in a private place where God revealed just who he is. The Creator who loves people called out to Moses. Look at what God said about himself.
“I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (Exodus 3:6)
“I have seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land.” (Exodus 3:7,8)
“I will be with you.” (Exodus 3:12)
“I am who I am.” (Exodus 3:14)
“I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt. I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt.” (Exodus 3:16,17)
“I, even I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to say.” (Exodus 4:12)
“I, even I will be with your mouth…I will teach you what you are to do.” (Exodus 4:15)
The one whom Moses worshiped in song revealed that he has no equal. Imagine how Moses encountered God. Miracles of unbelievable proportions took place.
Right up front, God told Moses who he was and what he was going to do. God introduced himself as the God of his heritage. He was proven and known by Moses’ ancestors. He was The Ancient One who met, spoke to, made promises to, and cared for his people.
God has no beginning or end. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He has seen it all. He was there. He is not a fabrication of anyone’s mind. He was there before anyone came along and he will be there forevermore. He is the one who proves just who he is. God let Moses know that he was omnipotent. God has no rival in power and ability. The God who told Moses that “he is” declares that belief in him is our salvation. (John 3:16)
After the introductions, God tells Moses that he is a deliverer and will champion the cause of the needy.
Moses is known as the deliverer of Israel, but it was the Supreme Being that worked through Moses to deliver. On dry land after a series of mind-boggling miracles, Moses stopped in awe and wonder at just who God is.
Let’s look at a few lines from his song.
“I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted.” (Exodus 15:1)
“The Lord is my strength and song and He has become my salvation. This is my God and I will praise Him.” (Exodus 15:2)
“Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power. Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy and in the greatness of your excellence you overthrow those who rise up against you.” (Exodus 15:6)
“Who is like you?” (Exodus 15:11)
After Moses finished his song, his sister also wrote and sang a song of worship. “He is highly exalted”. (Exodus 15:21)
The God whom Moses and Miriam worshiped is the same one who we worship. He does not change nor does his care for us change. In your life and mine we worship the Almighty God who has revealed himself to mankind and who has made a way for us to be delivered from death, hell, and the grave.
Hallelujah! Let’s worship him! We appreciate your Comments
