True worship belongs to a person who exists, has existed before time began, and will exist long after time waves goodbye. No created things (Romans 1:25) like idols fashioned out of wood or stone are to be worshiped simply because created things are not worthy of worship. This person worthy of worship is not an “energy force” as new age thinkers have declared. He created human beings in his own image.
- He spoke to his creation. (Exodus 3:4; Acts 13:2; Hebrews 1:1; 12:25)
- He has shown his feelings to his creation. (Ephesians 4:30; Hebrews 3:17 once again many more)
- He has declared his anger to a rebellious creation. (Hebrews 3:17; 12:25-28)
- He has had determined plans that transcend time periods. (Isaiah 53; Jeremiah 29:11)
- He expresses his desires (Hebrews 6:17; John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:9)
God is kind, he hears, he forgives, he guides, he teaches, he encourages, he judges, he rewards. Only a person can do all this (and more).
Though some will deny the existence of God and others will distort who God is, the fact of who God is can be seen in the undeniable coming of the long prophesied Messiah (Christ). Jesus came in history and gave a face to God. No one can hide behind any excuse.
Minutes before his betrayal and crucifixion, Jesus Christ said to God the Father, “This is eternal life, that they (all who will have relationship with him) may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent”. (John 17:3)
Excusing one’s lifestyle because of a belief that God is only a thought or a force, and not a person, is not only sad, but will lead to certain judgement before an actual person. Revelation 20 prophetically describes the scene. A person is seen sitting on a throne. This is the same person we read of in the prophesy of Isaiah (chapter 6).
Contrasting the idolatry that man has committed, Ezra wrote, “Sing to the Lord all the earth; proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; He also is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.” (I Chronicles 16:23-26)
Accepting the lie that God is not a person is the norm today, but some day, “at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth”. (Philippians 2:10)
Boldly we proclaim and worship the God who is a person who can be known. He has physically healed and changed the lives of countless people, including me! We appreciate your Comments
