Sometimes a television show is interrupted. Later, an announcement will be given that the feed is returning to the program that is “already in progress”. This can also be said about the worship of the Creator. No matter how we may be distracted by other things, the fact is that worship is already in progress. Countless people, the faithful angels, and even creation itself, are all worshipping God right now!
Both Isaiah and the apostle John had a sneak peek into what is presently going on in Heaven. They didn’t just write theoretical words. They were actually made privy to a worship service that is continually happening.
Isaiah wrote, “I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face and with two he covered his face and with two he covered his feet and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD of hosts The whole earth is full of His glory” (Isaiah 6:1-3). Nothing was said about singing but they worshipped nonetheless by proclaiming the holiness of God. As we mentioned earlier, worship is done with and very much without music and song.
Then John wrote that, “I looked, and behold a great multitude which no one could count from every nation and all tribes and people and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes and palm branches were in their hands and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.’ And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God” (Revelation 7:9-10). Later, he also wrote, “they are before the throne of God and they serve Him day and night in His temple” (Revelation 7:15, emphasis mine).
God, who has created all things with his word alone and has redeemed a fallen world through his amazing grace and love, is being worshipped even as you read these words. It’s already in progress!
